Selections and the ETs

Junior Sailors, age 12 and under

The Selection Trials are competitive and are sailed in conditions to suit the top of the fleet.  We welcome sailors who believe they will be able to cope with the environment to apply, however please discuss it with your sailor. The Selections are very different to our Nationals and weekend Championship events. Please read the NOR and appendix before making the decision. The days will be very long, they will be sailing out in Weymouth Bay, the ‘no coaching’ policy described in the Major Event Instructions is enforced and sailors are expected to be self-sufficient on the water. Some may relish the challenge, for others it may be too much, too soon. A guide produced by the RYA is attached which you will also find helpful.

As in previous years we hope that many of our Junior sailors will choose to sail in the RYA Eric Twiname Championships which take place the same weekend at Rutland. This is an excellent event and may be a much more rewarding experience for a sailor who is not realistically in contention for a team place at the Selection Trials. This year there are 36 Team Places for the 80 sailors competing.
