CARANTEC 1996 WAS FUN AGAIN

We travelled to Carantec through the Chunnel and drove for hours - it seemed like that in the heat. We arrived at Les Mouettes, the campsite and put up the tent. Brilliant, another water slide had been added and a Jacuzzi.

This sailing was different this year to last. There was a minimum of three races per day and on Wednesday there was a long distance race. Both the Benjamins, that was me, the juniors and the Minimes, the seniors, all started the race together. Unfortunately the Brits. Andrew Smith, Ben Field, and James Spencer didn’t do brilliantly in this race but we all enjoyed it, shame we didn’t win as there was a new EV Winner centreboard as first prize.

The sun shone all week the sand digging and the tunnelling was excellent fun and the Belgians, French and Dutch all play OK football! I finished 2nd junior and received a really weird looking trophy - and lots of Champagne! Well done to Benjamin who won the prize draw on Tuesday and won a box of tomatoes and some onions - talk about Lucky.

I can’t wait for next year and a note for your diaries, the French Nationals are the week before Carantec in Cherbourg.

Myles Willis

Results: 27th Ben Field, 33rd James Spencer, 40th Andrew Smith, 2nd Junior Myles Willis.
